Situated directly on historic Highway 70 and home to much of Center Hill Lake’s shoreline, Smithville is an unassuming town in the heart of Tennessee. Like most small towns, this community doesn’t draw crowds for its grand structures or entertainment, with the exception of the annual Fiddler’s Jamboree, but visitors are drawn to Smithville for its hometown feel. There are plenty of spots to enjoy some deep Southern classics served with a portion of sweet tea hospitality. Being so close to Center Hill Lake, many water enthusiasts find themselves in Smithville foraging for food or supplies and may be pleasantly surprised by what they can find here. Some of Smithville’s greatest treasures are not noticed by the casual passerby, but lie tucked away, waiting to be discovered.
If you find yourself in Smithville with kids on a nice day, don’t miss out on one of Smithville’s most noteworthy hidden treasures, Greenbrook Park. This lovely greenspace hosts an adorable brook, a walking trail, a duck pond, pavilions, a stage and one of the most expansive playgrounds that you will find in this area. Established in the 1970’s, the public park and playground are dotted with plaques showing how a community can come together to accomplish a project that will benefit generations to come.
For some in-season local produce, be sure to make a stop at Griffin’s Produce. Their selection varies widely depending on the season, from a vast array of tiny seedlings, to giant watermelons to delicious peaches. Just next door, make a stop at Just a Little Southern Charm, a tasteful boutique with great in-style options of women’s clothing and accessories.
